2) To let a reader/viewer know exactly what the creator strives to portray or show. Without them it'd be very hard to media creators to say or show something literally as it'd be too open for interpretation.

3) As symbols are open to interpretations, therefore a different cultures will definitely interpret different symbols in completely different ways, therefore leading to confusion and mis-interpretation of particular symbols.

The ad above is trying to show that the company's buns are fresh and tasty by making them look as perfect as possible, but instead what the advert ended up looking like is someone grabbing a butt. The hand is what makes this image come across, if the hand was removed it wouldn't look as bad.

This image shows a pair of car keys placed as if it's a gun, which presents the image of a car being a weapon as powerful as a gun.

What are the arguments for and against statutory regulation of the newspaper industry?  The first and most obvious is against the statutory regulation of newspapers as many people wouldn't trust the government, and some would argue that the government is corrupt and secretive enough. This would also potentially silence 'accountability journalism' and therefore the elite (those in power) will not be called out as often for their wrongdoings. 1) What type of text is it? It's a front page of a newspaper 2) How do you know? What are the key conventions that allowed you to identify the text? The "Daily Mail" logo at the top of the paper. The main headline right in the centre of the paper, along with a picture the it's right. Several smaller stories and headlines along the bottom of the paper. The really basic colours, and being majority black and white also shows us that it's a newspaper. 3) In your opinion, who is the target audience for this media text? Mostly adults above the age of 25, and elderly people. The mass demographic who'd want to read this particular copy would be interested in the main headline about the Military therefore I'd assume that'd me mostly men. 4) How would this audience access the text? 1) Why is representation an important concept in Media Studies? Representation is important because it portrays people on what they are like and so if the media portrays people or a group of people in a bad way then it could lead to them people getting stereotyped and not being shown to how they truly are. There is so many cases where this is true but as time go's on some stereotypes on people tend to break. 2) How does the example of Kate Middleton show the way different meanings can be created in the media? It shows the media uses an image or a story to portray someone in however they want to be in a good light or a bad light and with the Kate Middleton example they could imply if they wanted choose the pictures that made her look bad and use the ones and make it seem like she had a drinking problem.
