What are the arguments for and against statutory regulation of the newspaper industry?  The first and most obvious is against the statutory regulation of newspapers as many people wouldn't trust the government, and some would argue that the government is corrupt and secretive enough. This would also potentially silence 'accountability journalism' and therefore the elite (those in power) will not be called out as often for their wrongdoings. This would be a major risk as if the government begins governing the media, the elite will have power over news outlets and the main sources of information, therefore allowed space for scandals to happen in the dark where the public won't find out, but have a right of knowing what's happening in their country, city and community. 1) What type of text is it? It's a front page of a newspaper 2) How do you know? What are the key conventions that allowed you to identify the text? The "Daily Mail" logo at the top of the paper. The main headline right in the centre of the paper, along with a picture the it's right. Several smaller stories and headlines along the bottom of the paper. The really basic colours, and being majority black and white also shows us that it's a newspaper. 3) In your opinion, who is the target audience for this media text? Mostly adults above the age of 25, and elderly people. The mass demographic who'd want to read this particular copy would be interested in the main headline about the Military therefore I'd assume that'd me mostly men. 4) How would this audience access the text? 1) Why is representation an important concept in Media Studies? Representation is important because it portrays people on what they are like and so if the media portrays people or a group of people in a bad way then it could lead to them people getting stereotyped and not being shown to how they truly are. There is so many cases where this is true but as time go's on some stereotypes on people tend to break. 2) How does the example of Kate Middleton show the way different meanings can be created in the media? It shows the media uses an image or a story to portray someone in however they want to be in a good light or a bad light and with the Kate Middleton example they could imply if they wanted choose the pictures that made her look bad and use the ones and make it seem like she had a drinking problem. But also if they wanted to make her look good then they could say how respectful and well manured in the way she is drinking the wine making her look good. 3) Summarise ...
