1) Use your lesson notes on magazine genres and conventions to view a range of potential magazine covers. Create a shortlist of three potential magazines and embed an example front cover from each one.

2) Select your chosen magazine to create a new edition for and explain the thinking behind your choice.

I have chosen XXL because It's unique in the way it's laid out and the central image includes more than one person, creating more space for creativity and variety.

3) Find three different front covers for your chosen magazine and embed them in your blogpost. Analyse the fonts, colours and typical design. What is the language or writing style? How are the cover lines presented? You need to become an expert in the design and construction of this magazine and its branding.

XXL - Includes more than one person in the central image and contains a minimal amount of cover lines. The logo is also covered by the central image giving pleasure to loyal readers of the magazine. The colour's are mostly reds and blacks with a hint of yellow and white.

XXL uses really vivid colours and generally mixes black and white colours usually having a thick stroke on the title. The cover lines are usually also very basic and only feature popular rappers names etc.

GQ - Features a male main flash typically dressed in a classy suits, ties, occasionally resorting to classy jackets and t-shirts. The logo is really big and always behind the main flash, along with longer tag lines.

1) Plan your main flash - this is the main cover story that links to your central image.
More than one person, either a high or a low down shot.

2) Plan the image you will need for the cover - model, costume, make-up, lighting etc. At this point, simply describe the image you need to capture.
Urban clothing, rapper-esque persona. Natural lighting nothing major, ideally minimise shadows. Have more than one person in the main flash.
3) Write the cover lines and any additional text you need for your magazine cover.
"Top-10 summer songs"
"#1 Single"
"Rappers names"4) Sketch out your cover on plain A4 paper using your written planning. Take a photo of your sketch and embed it in your blogpost.
