Background: mobile gaming The videogames industry has changed massively since the emergence of the smart phone and app store distribution model. Mobile gaming has changed the audience demographics for gaming and brought the industry into the mainstream. The app store model means tech giants such as Apple and Google are making significant sums from mobile gaming but mobile hits can still earn developers millions. Angry Birds made developer Rovio $200m in 2012 and broke 2 billion downloads in 2014. The Sims FreePlay is a spin-off from the hugely successful Sims franchise first published by Electronic Arts (EA) in 2000.  The game is a strategic life simulation game (also known as the sandbox genre). The Sims FreePlay takes the game on to phones and tablets and uses the ‘freemium’ model that makes money via in-app purchases. The game has seen 200 million downloads since 2011 – remarkable success. Hypodermic needle model 1) Read this  Mail Online article about the effects of videogames . How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model? The article relates to the theory as it directly tells people about a recent study that was conducted at a University which is supposedly a good source. The study claims that play games for 20 minutes a day for three days straight not only affects short term aggression but also long term. This is directly telling people that playing video games for even short amounts of time can lead to a change in behaviour and lead to more violent acts. 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?  This pushed across the agenda that for one it's hard to hack Talk Talk as it's personified as a "Phone Giant" suggesting that they presumably have high-tech security protecting their firm. 1) Type up your feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to). WWW: Some of the points using media terminology well EBI:  2) Did you succeed in meeting or exceeding your target grade for A Level Media? If not, how many additional marks do you need to achieve your target grade in this paper? I needed 55 more marks to get to my target grade but I hope for an A.  We don't know exactly what grade boundaries AQA will set as this is a new specification. These are the boundaries we've used, based on last year's A Level exam but reduced slightly to account for the new specification (out of 84):   A* = 78; A = 68; B = 56; C = 44; D = 32; E = 21. Now read through the AQA  mark scheme . This is vital as the paper was an official specimen exam paper and therefore the mark scheme tells us a lot about what AQA are expecting us to produce. The  original question paper is here  if that is helpf...
